Dennis Stewart
A lifelong curiosity for the overlooked corners of the natural world became more than twenty years of wildlife photography.
Dennis grew up exploring a small backyard surrounded by the brick and concrete of the city. Spiders, ants and other “creepy crawlies” became his first wildlife subjects in spirit—small discoveries approached with the excitement of a great expedition.
Years later, his wife gave him a film camera to carry on his hikes through the Florida Everglades. The early photographs were, as Dennis readily admits, “mostly dreadful.” But the possibility of preserving a brief encounter without a single word changed the course of his life.
Today, his work has appeared in Texas Parks & Wildlife, Scholastic publications, public art and National Geographic’s “Daily Dozen” Editor’s Picks. Through Seeing Wild, he hopes that wonder becomes attention, attention becomes care, and care helps protect the wild lives around us.
